JORGE MUNICIO CORCHO
CELLIST

I began my musical studies at the age of six, studying with Carmen Agúndez at the Official Conservatory Hermanos Berzosa in Cáceres, where my interest in music grew as I learned more about, and developed the love I now have for it. Later I pursued higher education in Porto, Portugal, under the guidance of Professor Jed Barahal, gaining valuable experience performing with various orchestras and ensembles such as OJEx, NphM and Orquestra Sinfonica do Porto Casa de Música. In 2018, I was accepted into the master’s program at Codarts University for the Arts in Rotterdam, where I studied with Professor Jeroen den Herder, Herre Jan Stegenga and Job ter Haar, deepening my expertise in historically informed performance practices. My master’s studies provided me with opportunities to perform at several events and festivals, including the Zutphen Cello Festival (Netherlands), PRISMA Festival (Canada), and PortoCello Festival (Portugal).Since 2019, I have been a member of the Duo Lusitano, exploring the repertoire for cello and basso continuo, and the realization of the latter on cello. In 2023, I also joined the Tacora Ensemble, based in Rotterdam, further broadening my artistic horizons.

"Depending on the nature of the project and the repertoire, I adapt my approach; from my playing technique to the instrument and bow:
Baroque - Classic/Early romantic. (Baroque cello & bow, gut strings)
Romantic, 20th century. (Modern instrument, gut strings)
Arrangements: folk-inspired and contemporary music from popular to "classical". I also make my own arrangements (Modern instrument, wound gut strings - mostly.)
